Sexual wellness is one of the most underserved areas of women’s health. For women in Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and throughout Miami-Dade County who are experiencing changes in sexual desire, arousal, sensation, or satisfaction, the conversation with their physician often ends before it begins—either because the topic feels too sensitive to raise or because the provider lacks training in this area. At The Longevity Center FL, our practitioners approach female sexual wellness as a legitimate medical concern that deserves the same evidence-informed attention as any other aspect of health.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for female sexual wellness is an emerging modality that has generated growing clinical interest. While the evidence base is still developing, published research provides a foundation for understanding what PRP may offer, for whom, and what realistic expectations look like.
Female sexual dysfunction is common and multifactorial. It may involve decreased desire (hypoactive sexual desire disorder), difficulty with arousal, reduced genital sensation, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia), or difficulty achieving orgasm. Contributing factors may include hormonal decline (particularly during perimenopause and menopause), medication side effects (especially SSRIs and oral contraceptives), psychosocial factors, vaginal atrophy, and changes in blood flow to genital tissue.
A comprehensive review published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine described female sexual dysfunction as affecting approximately 40% of women across their lifespan, with prevalence increasing during the menopausal transition. The authors noted that treatment options have historically been limited compared to those available for male sexual dysfunction, and that emerging regenerative approaches represent a growing area of clinical investigation (Goldstein et al., J Sex Med, 2017).
PRP for female sexual wellness involves injecting concentrated autologous platelet-rich plasma into specific anatomical areas—typically the anterior vaginal wall and the clitoral region—with the goal of supporting tissue regeneration, neovascularization, and improved local blood flow. The biological rationale is based on PRP’s well-characterized effects on tissue repair: the concentrated growth factors (PDGF, VEGF, EGF, TGF-β) released by activated platelets may stimulate collagen remodeling, nerve regeneration, and vascularization in the treated tissue.
A pilot study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine evaluated PRP injection for female sexual dysfunction and reported improvements in desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, and overall satisfaction scores on the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) at follow-up. The authors noted the treatment was well-tolerated with no serious adverse events, though they emphasized the need for larger, placebo-controlled trials to confirm these preliminary findings.
A more recent systematic review published in Sexual Medicine Reviews analyzed the available clinical literature on PRP for female sexual dysfunction and concluded that early results are promising but that high-quality randomized controlled trials with adequate sample sizes and sham controls are still needed to establish definitive efficacy (Matz et al., Sex Med Rev, 2020).
At The Longevity Center FL, PRP for female sexual wellness is performed in our clinic as an outpatient procedure. The process includes:
PRP for female sexual wellness may be discussed with patients who are experiencing:
It is important to emphasize that PRP for female sexual wellness is not a guaranteed solution. The evidence is encouraging but still in early stages. Our practitioners discuss both the potential and the limitations of this approach transparently and evaluate whether other interventions—including hormone optimization, pelvic floor therapy, or psychological support—may be appropriate adjuncts or alternatives.
Sexual wellness does not exist in a vacuum. At The Longevity Center FL, our practitioners evaluate female sexual function within the context of the patient’s broader hormonal, metabolic, and psychological health. Declining estrogen, testosterone, and DHEA levels can each contribute to changes in desire, arousal, and genital tissue integrity. PRP may be most effective when combined with appropriate hormonal optimization—addressing the systemic environment alongside the local tissue.
A position statement from The International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) has emphasized the importance of a comprehensive biopsychosocial approach to female sexual dysfunction, noting that effective management often requires addressing multiple contributing factors simultaneously (Parish et al., Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2021).
The Longevity Center FL is located at 580 Village Blvd, Suite 210 in West Palm Beach. Residents of Coral Gables and Key Biscayne can reach our clinic in approximately 75–85 minutes via I-95.
